Control in the field sets up Concorde win

Another solid performance and our third straight home victory by eight wickets. Having successfully chased 126 & 232 in the last two home games, we were confident we could get the 144 required after Albamorphics were all out for 143.

We won the toss, and elected to field. Both Alex and Ashley bowled good opening spells against dour but not over inspiring openers, with Alex bowling a much better line,length and pace than in recent games. However, Ash made the breakthrough, having their opener caught behind by H. for twelve, and soon after Dave F. took a smart catch at forward short leg to make it 25-2. Ash gave way to the writer, who quickly bowled an aggressive looking no.4 and we were cruising at 38-3. The writer and Jerry W. then kept it tight for many overs, before a Jerry S. catch at extra cover and a smart run out by Doug M. in the same over, made it 72-5. The visitors never really recovered although they did manage to double their score with some late order slogging, before Edgar F. wrapped up the innings. We bowled them all out for 143. After tea, David F. and Edgar F. set about their business in the usual way, putting on 84, before Edgar was caught at long on for 49 for the second time this season . Doug M. came and went quickly, before Mick R. stayed with David to a rapid and decisive end. David finished on 73no, his highest score of the season , and seventh fifty since the end of June., a tremendous performance.
