Dropped catches cost matches!
Captain Cudders reports:-
I felt that overall it was a very promising start although it was mildly disappointing not to force the win, reducing 10 man Pyestock to 107-8, chasing our 179-8. I just hope that Mick Reeve can show the same resolve when batting for us this season!
Having been put into bat, we made steady progress against a modest attack, with Jerry Stockbridge making 38 ( he made 38 on 1st day of last season as well), Jerry Wright 43, and Alex Cudworth 51 (his maiden half century for the club, equalling his Dad's highest ever score for the club) and Brian Hallam a rapid 17.
In reply Pyestock never really threatened to get near our total, although our bowling lacked a bit of penetration, not entirely surprising as we were all 'rusty'. Bowling figures were- Alex C. 10-3-11-1, Dave F. 5-0-24-0, Edgar F. 5-0-22-0, Robin L. 4-0-6-0, Jerry W. 7-1-26-2, Toby C. 3-1-4-2 (incl.2 in 2), Paul R. 2-1-5-1, and myself 6-3-6-1. All very respectable. One dismal thing to report is the fact that we dropped at least 5 catches which went to hand, and failed to get to at least 2 others which was very disappointing .This must be addressed if we want to win matches. Ground fielding was generally quite good, highlighted by Paul Reeve's great throw from the cover boundary to run out their opener going for a second run.
