Last minute appearances by Keith Green, Mike Stockbridge and Sean Conway enabled us to take the field with 11 men but the visitors won the toss and asked us to bat. For the second time in a month I had to ask openers Edgar and Rob Symondson to really get their heads down knowing our fragile middle order lacking Frammo, Jerry W., Alex or Ash. They responded superbly and scored 78 and 50 respectively against a generally tidy attack. When they departed incoming batsmen responded to the cushion they had provided and we finished with 212-4. I actually declared just before tea.(hadn't expected to do that at 9pm the previous night) Keith Green made 21, Paul Reeve 19 n.o. and the Chairman put recent woes behind him with a brisk 14.
After tea the opposition set about their task but lost three early
wickets, the first snaffled in front of first slip by Mick R. , Sean
the footballer then held a very 'droppable' skier at mid off, before
Matt H. produced a perfect yorker to their left handed no.4 At 10-3
we began to fancy our chances.Edgar had to come off after only two overs
with a pulled muscle but Toby and Paul Reeve (making his first appearance
of the season) produced good spells to ram home our advantage. Toby
was the pick of
the bowlers with 3 wkts, and Paul did his usual, dismissing the opener
for 50 with the 'eleventh' ball of his first over They were all out
for 115. Bowling figs. were Matt H. 8-1-30-1, Edgar F. 2-0-19-0, Toby
7-3-10-3, Paul 4-0-23-2, Mike Stockbridge 1.1-0-14-1 and myself 7-1-14-2.
