Alex ton sets up cameos all-round

Look out, Dad. No need to catch this!
Having been put into bat by a confident Pirbright skipper, Concorde's openers (Alex and Edgar) started well with Alex being merciless on any wayward bowling, although he was dropped in the slips before a run was scored. Edgar 'holed' out to mid off at 52-1. The arrival of Ashley at 3 set the expectation on a run feast. However, Ash had an unusual 'blip' in concentration and was back in the pavilion for 8. Justin (22) followed and played a classic second fiddle to Alex who was now in full flow and well on the way to a magnificent 115. Concorde reached 176-4 when the chairman arrived nervously at the wicket aiming to cull the drought of runs from previous matches. Needless to say his aim was achieved with some controlled hitting to reach 22 before receiving a nasty bouncer from the opening bowler requiring him to retire hurt. Rob Linnecar added to the Pirbright's misery by hitting a quick fire 24. Concorde finished with 237 -7
Concorde's opening bowlers (Toby and Rob) bowled a tight line putting both Pirbright openers under pressure. Within a short period of time both were back in the pavilion. Ash replaced Toby (7-4-11-3) and proceeded to remove the Pirbright middle order with pace and accuracy, leaving the skipper to mop up the tail with a few overs of spin. Pirbright finished the day on 75 all out. In summary a good team effort led by excellent batting from Alex supported by accurate bowling.
